I saw this one noticed the line where it says we have moved past discriminating in the basis of skin color but now we discriminate upon the color we put on our skin... I can understand the logical fallacy in that argument, but someone placing designs on their body shouldn't be held back because of their self-expression....what if the tattoos were goofy and didn't fit the typical stereotype of tatoos....what about a girl having a feminine rose vein or something on her arm not that those are popular...conservative business as we know it sucks...this is coming from a guy who has no tatoos on his body much less have any friends who have more than the occasional tattoo.

I can see both sides but more leaniant towards hiding them.
The key word is SELF-expression or representing yourself..... but when you're at work, your not representing 'yourslef' but the company you work for, hence uniforms. When you leave work, you can wear what ever you like cause it's your choice/your self-expression/ your time. When you 'clock in' you're working for them as in 'their' time. So I would think as if covering them up is part of the uniform.

I applied for a job a few years back as a welder, and was told that I'd have to work the third shift because I have visible tattoos on both arms. (it was at a very well known amusement park) WTF! As a welder I wouldn't have been in the general public view and I'd be covered from head to foot with protective clothing. i.e. - leather welding jacket, long gauntlet gloves, etc.
It's another form of discrimination that has been allowed to go on.

comparing it to skin color is downright stupid, nobody is born with or forced to get a tattoo
before you get a tattoo, you have to know that not everybody is going to like it
it is human nature to judge somebody by their appearance, the moment you see somebody you immediately form an opinion of them in your mind
i saw a guy last week that had tattoos that coverd his neck, arms, and hands
many people including myself would assume that he is mentally unstable
you chose to look that way, deal with the consequences

i have 6 tattoos myself but i have to agree with subzero. during work hours you represent your company not yourself. fortunatly most of my tattoos are covered by my clothing so i am not very effected by this. i do have to cover my ankle tattoos from time to time when i have to go to a inservice but mine are not large. this also galls me to say but i also agree with mikey p 100% lol don't expect me to say that again! In my business the dress code pretty much states "no visible tattoos or piercings other than earrings." Whenever I interview someone for a job I make that known. People can still have them as long as they keep them covered.
I personally won't get one as I think most look like shit. I guess I've known too many Mexicans with bad homemade "prison" tattoos. Posted by Foot Lover Of London (Member # 2420) on :

I'm afraid I have to agree with footlong also - our office has a dress code of business casual and we are never even allowed to wear any kind of jeans, no shorts in summer and no flip flops on the job. They look at each employee as a direct reflection on what they want to present to the public.
They have no idea that I have a strategically placed tattoo and would probably be "shocked" based on no only the fact of the tattoo itself but because of my "age" when I decided to get it.
Anyone who chooses to ink large portions of their bodies know beforehand that it could cause employment issues as well as negative first impressions - not matter how wrong those impressions may be.
It's in the same category as foot fetishes. People don't take the time to look beyond and see the positives....
