I think you mean a new PC and not CPU...

Are you a hardcore windows user?

Cause i suggest getting an iMac,
top 24" inch boasts a 3.066 GHz cpu.
and 512 Mb graphics card.

If not a Mac. Get an HP, can't go wrong with HP

Build your own. There are tons of barebones systems out there and do everything a corporate chain system can do. Besides, you really don't need all the bells and whistles they give you.

I agree with Maverick. I built my own system, the one I'm using now. AMDx64 Dual Core 2.5GHz, 2GB DDR2-800 RAM, 160GB SATA 3.0, NVidia 8600 256. Got all that, new Asus motherboard and case for about $400 from NewEgg.

There are many people that say they do not like Vista, even hate it. Personally, I don't really understand. Vista works differently than XP. XP does not manage memory. It keeps it free and allows the applications to allot memory for its own use. Vista tries to manage memory for the applications running within it. This allows Vista to separate application processes so that a crash in one program will most likely mean no crash elsewhere. I haven't had any problems with Vista at all.

If you like Windows, perhaps not HP - go for Alienware. Depends on what capabilities you want. Otherwise Mac is the Kwan.

I was recently in the market for a new pc as well. Frustrated with windows, i really didn't want to dive into vista. I looked into macs and ended up getting an iMac at the end of last year and i have been so pleased with it. Windows would have to make some drastic changes for me to ever consider going back.
