I have a desktop computer, my wife has a laptop. Her laptop connects to the Internet via a wireless router connected to my desktop.

Why is it so FREAKING IMPOSSIBLE to create a network so we can wirelessly share files between computers?!?! I've been at it for days and I just can't get it.

Does anyone know of any online tutorials that can help me?

Seriously folks, I'm pulling my hair out over this crap!!! Any leads would be so greatly appreciated.

What brand of a router do you have Bondo? And please don't say D-Link [Big Grin]

First off are both of your computers able to use the internet? Because if that is working it shouldn't be too hard to get going.

Secondly if you haven't done so already (and you have Windows XP) I'd go to Control Panel, then click 'Network Connections', then click on 'Network Setup Wizard' and follow the steps. If you've tried that already and it didn't work for ya, let me know the details of what you've already tried/what happened and I'll try and help ya out the best I can in writing lol

Thanks for the reply rockbass. I have a Dell router, which has successfully connected both computers to the Internet. Both computers are running Windows XP.

I've definitely tried everything imaginable on both computers to try to get them to see each other (or not, which is why I'm having these problems).

After a few more attempts, I was able to get the Laptop to "see" my desktop, but I couldn't access it through the network.

Eventually I gave up and I found a short term solution: **FIREWIRE**. I was able to set things up where I could transfer files from the laptop to the desktop via firewire.

That'll have to do for now. Thanks again.

Well at least you found a way to make it work until you get it like you want wirelessly.

However since you had your laptop being able to see your desktop that is really close to having it. Anyways I found what seems to be a really great tutorial. Maybe give this a shot and see if it gets you sharing.

Sounds like a problem I had a while back. Problem was that my software firewall (ZA and windows firewall) was blocking it. Try turning off any software firewall you might have running.

Thanks for the link rockbass, I'll check it out when I get home.

And Yates, I disabled the settings for my Firewall, but I might try just turning it completely off for a minute and see if that does the trick. Thanks for the tip.
