This really tickled the mess out of me. I just happened to make a small talk with a goth woman about her opinion on the tsunami issue and there was a lady across the street from us and she appeared to be punk, judging by her clothes, make-up, and hair style. The goth woman looked ad said to me "Us goths and punks don't get along, we hate each other.". I was really shocked to hear her say that and I asked her why and she said "Because they think they're better than us and cooler.". She even said that fights break out between them too. This was one of the weirdest things I've ever heard 'cause I thought that they were all kinda the same. Has any of you here ever come across this issue?

I think I will be the first to reply. I really do not like all those "classifications" of goth, or punk, or metal head or jock or prep or whatever else there may be, but to the majority of people, I could/would be considered a "punk" which is OK with me, or else I probably wouldnt dress the way i do. Anyway, I think its really stupid, how people from different "sub-cultures" if you will, don't get along. Especially if its because of music or clothing. The way I see it, you shouldnt judge a person by the way they dress. There are some "punks" who are just plain out stupid, and act very ridiculous, which gives punk and punks a bad name. Which, im sure is true in all these different classifications that there are now adays. But yes, Above Omnipotence, I have unfortunatly come across things like this before. I mean, im sure somewhere along the lines, we have same interests. I don't really know how to explain myself very well right now, lol. But I guess, what I'm trying to say is that we should look beyond the clothing or whatever, and see what is really inside a person. Just because i like punk, doesnt mean, that I'm not going to like a person just because they like Metal or Country etc. I dont know, ill stop ranting, im probably just making things more confusing lol [Smile] Oh, and punk and goth are not the same thing! lol

Yes they do not get along. And punks especially are offended if you mistake them for a goth.

Hey, let's face it: Punk is dead, goth is like "queer eye for the straight dork"
hehehe...
I knew a lot of "goths" in Boston, and they all had one thing in common: They're SOOOOOO different, and SOOOOO misunderstood, and SOOOOO unique, and when you get a room full of them, and they all look like they are at the "interview with a vampire casting call", they are really just lemmings. I wish they would just run off a cliff.
That said, I think that anyone who gives up who and what they are to be part of some GROUP is soft. Nice to bounce in and out of social circles, and taste what life has to offer, but to just associate with one particular fashion, group, clan, cult, or mindset is just LAME!!!
"I'm so goth..."
"I'm so punk...
"I'm soo republican..."
"I'm so Christian..."
"I'm so Jewish..."
"I'm so Democratic..."
"I'm so weak and I don't really know myself well enough to have any personal power, that I must lose myself in a crowd of like-minded douches..."
Enough already!
We are all here to find ourselves, and to get over it.
So enough with the group mentalities... Become who you are and grow.
