Just fill it up when the tank is half full(or empty if you are a pessimist). Probably a bad joke but i wanted to cheer people up and get our minds off this horrible crisis affecting us all in everyway.

I've started walking anywhere and everywhere I can whether it be to a friends house or work or the store....I save driving for a only-if-needed basis.

I am so lucky to live in a city where I don`t (and have never) needed a car.
Bike rider all the way! (or very seldom public transportation)

I used to commute 66 miles round trip to work everyday until a few months ago when I transferred to a location exactly 1 mile from my house. I suppose your lifestyle is probably a lot simpler too not needing to have an auto. Don't have to worry about gas prices, insurance, registration, license, maintenance. However, I have the convenience factor. For example when I go up to the hardware store to buy lumber, plants, or whatever I don't have to coordinate with a friend for a lift or load lets say 10 5 gallon pots of red tip photina bushes onto the bus. [Laugh]

I'm guessing you probably live in an apartment in the city too and don't have to worry too much about home improvements or gardening. [Wink]

Actually, I live in a really large house in the city and we have a garden as well. When I moved into the house I obviously needed a car for the furniture but since then I´ve managed pretty well without one...I´ve even transported some crazy stuff on my bike or in the "bike hanger" (I bought a large hanger for the bike...pretty common over here). If things are too large you can usually have them delivered to your house for free or for a small fee.
The politics of the larger cities here in Germany have started to change in the last years...they encourage people to ride bike or use public transport, and are trying to get cars out of the city center. A new law was just passed which even bans certain cars from the cites (the ones that cause a lot of pollution).
I´d say about 80% of the people I know don`t own a car. And most of the others use "car sharing", which is rapidly growing in most cities.

I drive over 70 miles round trip to work every day plus even more than that to gigs. Just got my gas credit card bill for last month and it is $100 more than the previous month. I now work one week out of every month to pay for gas to get to work (the next week's salary pays for health insurance) - I can't afford to work and I can't afford not to.

I have begun a job search nearer my home; that seems the simple solution. I have discovered that there is someone more reviled than Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, or a Muslim terrorist (yes, even more despised than Denny Terrio from "Dance Fever") and that person is a white, middle-aged male with a resume.

What is everyone hearing about gas prices. I heard today that they are supposed to go to $6.00 a gallon in the U.S. if that happens i think there will be riots and outbreaks of vandalism and drive offs everywhere.

Nobody walks in LA - my ride was in the shop and I boycotted a rental car and walked everywhere. The duality of it is when you walk you get a different/refreshing perspective of the city and since no one walks when you do see someone they are usually talking/yelling to no one. LA is certainly not like NY, Tokyo or Paris where your life can change for the better on a brisk walk.

What's happening here in my town is gas theft from people siphoning gas out of parked cars in people's driveways or parking lots.

Yeah, I am sure it is one person's fault that all the gas companies are getting away with this. Like anything else in the world, they only get away with what WE let them. Even if Bush wanted to lower this, the Dems won't let him because if they can make it wait until their watch, they'll look like hereos. Isn't that what it's always about? In addition, why would you tell those who give you campaign funds to stop? Like that would happen with either party.
