I'm just wondering if anyone here hits any of the Renaissance Festivals around the country?
We try to hit the two biggest ones here in Texas a least once a year: Scarborough Faire and The Texas Renaissance Fesitval. There used to be a third one we went to in the late 90's called Hawkwood, but it ended after only 5 years (getting worse every year).
Who else dresses up like a fool at these things and gets sloppy drunk like yours truely???

Oh heck yeah dude. I go to the Maryland Renaissance Festival at least once a year during its run, sometimes two or three times. My year isn't complete until I've been to the Fest with a mug of cider in one hand and a smoked turkey leg in the other.

Haven't been to one in years, But I used to go to one in upstate New York EVERY year for about 6 or 7 years. In fact, one year that I was there, Regis Philbin was crowned that years King, and it was all on Live with Regis and Kathy Lee. Yes...I said Kathy Lee. I'm that old.
I was in fact challenged one year to an archery contest by one of the fairs knights. The prize of course was my lady's honor. I won the day in the end, but couldn't help feeling that perhaps my lady wasn't just a little disappointed.
Over the years I bought many things there. Big poofy shirts, hand made leather boots, hand made swords and daggers. But by far the one thing I got the most mileage out of was a simple bamboo flute that I picked up for 6 bucks. Had great fun figuring out how to play "Louie Louie", the Riddler theme from the old Batman show, and some Capt. Kirk fight music from Star Trek.
I am pretty sure that copious amounts of drugs were involved.
