Every so often I will re-watch this video and it never fails to give me the willies. This is a prototype funded by DARPA (the research and development arm of the Department of Defense).
Now picture that thing mounted with artillery...how does that tickle your imagination.

Totally creepy, I agree. Looks like a huge tick or beetle. Fascinating how it can walk over bricks, ice and snow, and the guy is unable to kick it over.

Ya, funded by DARPA, the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency. That's the 'private' sector of the Defence Dept., the sector that has already probably had things like this Big Dog for years, only we don't, and won't, know about it.
Now they are shelling out the money to other 'public' firms like Boston Dynamics to get the technology out there for the masses.
