No novice here, but I once caught a strong wiff of a woman's feet from 7 feet away. So it's possible that those who haven't had any foot action yet to know how (womens) feet smell.

when i was a younger lad who did not have foot action at that point in my life, i knew i'd like beautiful women's feet smell cuz some of my sister's hot friends would come over for slumber parties and i would make sure to take good sniffs of her hot friend's shoes late at night after they appeared to be asleep (shoes were usually in a different room from where they passed out).
from the smell of these certain shoes, i knew i would like the smell of hot women's feet. mind you some shoes were much stinkier than others and indeed less pleasant, but that would not stop me from holding a nose under the owner's toes. yes i was a sick pup, Hee Hee

As I've said in other posts of mine. I always thought to myself why do guys with other foot fetishes get turned on by the smell of girl's feet. I didn't think I would until I took a pilates class with a girl. Her feet were so close to my face, like inches away. I took in the whole smell the entire time. I loved it and I long for that smell again.

The only reason I took the class was because I peaked in and saw her barefoot. Had to do something so I just walked in and was like I didn't know you do pilates (to get a better look at her feet) then she was like yea you should join. Then I took advantage of the moment.

footjoy is right. honestly, what you have to remember is that smells range. i remember one time in 9th grade was i was backstage with a girl on the set of the school play. we were rehersing and shit right next to each other, then out of the blue, i smelt this foul horrible odor, and sure enough she had taken her shoes off. it made me want to puke (no offence to anyone who may like smells that potent), and i knew that wasnt going anywhere, but i wasnt missing out though, her feet weren't that great to begin with. but yeah, you kinda know what you like early on.
