Ok, I'm not here posting this to blast anyone who wishes to contact me via instant messenger. I'm posting this to just say a few things real quick before anyone thinks about sending either myself or another random person an instant message.

1. Do not IM someone you don't know something about first. It can be a little much to have someone IM you and then say, "ASL." Wouldn't you know at least something about me if you decided to IM me? I've had many people tell me how they'd love to suck on my toes and sex me up. Apparently those people didn't believe that I was the male web master of a site and thought "footphotographer" meant "footmodel." Just do some basic homework.

2. Don't ask for free pictures. I've let people see some upcoming unpublushed pictures because they were pleasant to talk to. If you IM me and start begging for free photos, you're not going to get them. There are enough places to get those (like here, including a TON from my site).

3. If told that it is not a good time to carry on a conversation, then respect that. I leave my messenger on because the screen names I use for my site are also the ones most of my friends use. I can't always carry on a conversation every minute of every day. No disrespect.

4. Please make sense!!! I won't pretend to be the most educated person in the world, but if you IM me and type in some kind of slang that I cannot understand with loads of typos and strange capitalization of words, I won't take it seriously.

5. NEVER ask me for free passwords or to trade passwords. Seriously...

Only reason I am posting this is because I've gotten some instant messages lately from people I do not know in the slightest and they've been quite demanding and or stupid. The majority of people are NOT this way, but there has been enough just for me to want to say the things above if you're thinking about IM'ing me or other people.

While i can share in patrick's frustration like i am sure most of the content providers who post here could, I would like to use this thread to say, if you send one of us an instant message, do us a favor and in your initial message, let us know who it is, your user name here, if youre a customer etc.Something other than "hi" that lets us know you are someone who's opinion we value, and not just some random person likely to end up the way Patrick describes above.

Agree with all the above. Of course, me being a guy who even texts using proper grammar, I'll of course share nearly all of Patrick's pet peeves on IM'ing.

Totally agreed with Patrick....I feel the internet shouldn't mean trading respect for anonymity...
