Okay, now here is another question about these dainty chains that turn us all on so much. My ex-wife, who literally could not get dressed without putting an ankle bracelet of some sort or another on every morning, always made sure it was on her left ankle. She said that was because she was married. An unwed woman placed it on her right ankle.

Does anyone know if that's an unwritten rule of womanhood that is punishable by death if it is disobeyed? You know, kind of like wearing white after labor day or where their socks must match their shirt?

Just wondering?

no idea if it's a fast written rule. my co-worker always has one on, but usually on her right foot.. her reason being that her son gave it to her instead of her husband. she at times has one on both ankles, but that is super rare.

i got to ask her about it many times and made a fool of myself about it a few times. she even let me take a pic of it once (but none of the bosses were around and she had called my bluff... during a joke and prank in the office)

the only thing embarassing for me about it, i was teasing her one day, trying to get to see if she had on her silver one, and she took it to the next level and said if i wanted to play with her foot i could. stuck it out, i jokingly went for it, just as my collegue came in... man was i red faced!!!!! but they were all cool and let it die a few days later.. they kept it between the folks on the shift and didn't pass it elsewhere (though I'm sure the gossip tree got a hold of it)

ok, i digressed much.. but in closing that lenghty disertation, never really mix your foot interest with work. i got away clean that time, but man, i won't risk it again, now that i'm older and wiser

but back on topic, never heard that rule before.

Like RPM, I too have never heard of any specific rules that govern or dictate which ankle a gal is to wear her anklets on. I'm tempted equally regardless of whether it's on the left or the right. So as long as it's on one or both of 'em, the reasoning behind it is pretty insignificant to me.

One survey in the UK determined that an overwhelming number (87%) of women polled chose to wear their anklet on the right ankle instead of the left, with the presumption being that they may have chosen to do so since the majority of those women were right-handed rather than left-handed. I'm not sure if there's any direct correlation or not, but that's one theory for what it's worth.

I had heard and read rumors about this, and wondered about it for many years to. I also was concerned about it when I gave my wife her first anklet (which she wears 24/7) because I didn't want her to be sending out an incorrect "message" by where she was wearing her anklet.

The most credible evidence I've ever read about it, which seems to make sense, indicates that those beliefs were influenced by women in India wearing them all the time and for very specific cultural reasons.

It could also just be an American invention, like the signals gay men used with bandana placement years ago,but that doesn't seem to hold true because upon observing (at least American women)its apparent that they do not follow any specific guidelines. (i.e. You see some married women wearing them on their right ankle, and some on their left) I don't think, in this country anyway, that there's any real meaning to it.
