We are continuing with the Double-Elimination format of this tournament. For each group, the girls who won their matches last week will face each other in what will be called the "Qualifying Match", while the two losers face each other in an "Elimination Match". The girl who wins the Qualifying Match will automatically advance into the second round with a 2-0 record, while she waits for the second girl to advance out of that group. The loser of that match still has a chance to advance to the following round. In the Elimination Match, however, the winner still has a chance to advance. The loser will be eliminated (because by that time she would've lost twice, which is what I mean by double-elimination).

----

These matches are tougher than they were last week. I mean, I knew who was going to face who, but having to vote on them now makes the decisions that much more difficult. The hardest match for me was Greta Garbo vs. Rita Hayworth. I wonder how the guys debated that argument back in the 1930-40s?

You know (perhaps it's just me) but were teenage boys that enraged with hormones back during the days after the Great Depression to choose Greta over Rita (or the other way around)? Teenage boys today talk about the present-day women who are in my version of the Fashionistas as if they're pros at having hardcore sex. You should hear the words that come out of their mouths when they talk about Carmen Electra, Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Hudgens, and Megan Fox. The words they use to describe these women can make an old person think that their parents were failures at raising them properly by showing respect when they talk about a female. Did you think little boys in the 1930s were as obsessed with Garbo and Hayworth as today's teens are with Fox, Kardashian, and the PussyCat Dolls?

It seemed like they had more manners back then. What do you think?

Good question.

I don't know, would be my answer. I guess they left it up to the men to decide that over some hard liquor. The little boys were just handing out newspapers back in those days, so I think they were preoccupied with that and playing cards, I guess.

Greta Garbo vs Rita Hayworth is a true definition of a classic. It's only fitting that they are placed in the Classic's group. That match and the Monroe/Page match are matches that people back in those days dared not to even dream about. Im glad this version of the Fashionistas took the time to help replenish their images.

While Monroe is legendary, Farrah Fawcett and Raquel Welch have been dominating their two matches so far. They are making great statements that they are smokin hot, as well. Monroe, on the other hand, has not dominated the way Welch and Fawcett has had. It will be extemely interesting to see what would happen IF they face each other in the rounds ahead.

Let's not forget about Garbo and Hayworth. Greta is doing an excellent job fending off her opponents even though they have made it hard for her to get the win last week and this week (if she holds on to her lead). The next roud will be VERY intersting because we will have the winners competing against each other.

It's so hard to pick a big-time favorite for me.

Some tough matchups once again. I went with Garbo over Hayworth in a doozie. Marilyn over Page, Lorean over Hepburn, Welch over Kennedy, Margaret over Cher, Fawcett over Field & Ronstadt over Ross. Taylor and Davis was the hardest decision of the week, I was back and fourth and back and fourth on that one and I'm still sort of undecided. I think Davis is prettier overall even if you take Liz at her best, but Taylor in her prime had some perfect fucking feet. When you think of Liz in the role of Cleopatera it's hard to vote against her but ever since I saw that picture dougiezerts posted of Bette Davis last week I can't stop thinking about how great it would be to suck her toes so I'm going with Davis by the slightest of margins in the matchup of the week.

These matches (most of them, anyway) are dangerously close still. Voting closes in about 24 hours. You could that one vote that will decide who will advance into the second round and who will be eliminated for good. It will be a hard pill to swallow to say good bye to some of these ladies but we need to know where you people stand on these women.

Tomorrow (or Saturday) will have a little treat for everyone to help re-appreciate these women have meant to us and the influences they have left on women who are currently famous.
