I just found out yesterday that there are actually two ways for a girl to get a french pedicure:
1) The "real way" where they actually get acrylics nails over top their own nails.
2) The "fake way" where the nail is painted pink, then a little white line is drawn along the edge of the nail to make it look like a french pedicure.
My wife's talking about getting a #2. She actually became a certified nail tech, but then never worked in the field. She said she would only do the #1if she could do it to herself. Not sure what the problem is other than I'm sure it's more expensive.
Anybody had experience with the #1 technique? How's it look compared to #2?

I've never had either, but have known many girls to get the #1 style on the fingers, not toes, althoguh I know they do both. The real way does cost more, beacuse you have to factor in the acrylics and the time it takes to do them. I can usually tell when someone has acrylics on and I prefer natural nails to acrylics. The acrylics look phony IMO. Since your wife is doing style #2 what is her opinion on the #1 style?

Well I've done style #2 for my wife and it seemed to work nicely. She had the actual acrylic nails on her hands once when I got her a gift certificate for a salon, but they only look good for about a week. After that you have to keep going in to get it filled from the gap where the natural nail grows. I can't imagine having that done on the toes. I do think the method #1 looks really nice though on the hands.

I'm assuming that, with her nail tech experience, that she realized that #2 was a lot more time consuming to get, more expensive, and as LaDaemon pointed out, a higher maintenance procedure.

Hi all, I had 1# done the fake tips after coming back from holiday as my toe nails were wreaked with climbing. Any way I only had them on the once they were horrid and really looked fake as they were so perfect. It cost £30.00 to get them done and took 1 1/2 hours to do. Having some one playing with my feet was great seeing the end result was bad I nearly cried. Never every again will I have that done..

In general I don't like french pedicures. But girls with the unreal pedicures look better. The fake nail on top of their own nails look silly and unnatural.
Then again - my turn on is not small pretty pictures on the nails but the toes and nails themselves:)
